So Who Wants Freedom Coffee Mugs?
These past few weeks I have been racking my brains how to help Myanmar. There have been so much loss of lives, loss of incomes, loss of homes, loss of land in Myanmar as the military junta violently inhumanely cracks down and persecute those who simply ask to be treated with dignity. As I watch the dead toll mounts and the suffering increases at each passing day, I am overwhelmed by my desire to do something, anything good to counter the brutal and malicious acts of Myanmar soldiers.
Homes have been burned. People have been killed in more ways that I could bear to hear or witness via CCTV footages and citizen videos. What can I do? What could I even do? What should I do? are the constant questions I ask myself, from the time I wake to the time I close my eyes at night. Questions even follow me into my dreams and my nightmares. Finally together with a group of friends we decided to take action that we, from outside of Burma, could take, which is to raise funds, to donate what we can, to amplify voices to raise awareness, to rise up against tyranny which is waging relentless war on civilians in Myanmar.
With this desire, RISE AND SHINE WITH FREEDOM — an organized movement to raise funds using e-commerce platform — was born. With this vision, we created beautiful everyday products featuring art for Myanmar and art by Myanmar and friends of Myanmar. Our mission is to send help to those who are deeply affected by Myanmar Military Coup, while raising awareness of the dire situation in Myanmar.
What can a coffee mug — slightly overpriced — do for the people of Myanmar who are at risk? It can feed a child who has lost her/his home. It can provide relief for the families who were forced to leave their homes because they refused to serve under this brutal regime. It can provide medicine for the poor and the sick. It can offer hope to those who are starting to despair. That the world cares. That we care. That we stand with Myanmar.
